    POTPOURRI - Downtown Beautification - Always a leader in community affairs, Breading's Cigar Store became the first downtown Center Street business to install a tree - be it ever so scrawny. Seems an unknown donor left the tree to contribute to the beautification effort. Total cost was approximately $4.60, store owner Burleigh Burgh reportedly said, compared to $241.80 per tree as proposed by the downtown beautification group.

    A new bill introduced in the lower house of the state legislature forbidding foreclosure of mortgages for three years following filing of complaints for foreclosure is fathered by Hobart Creighton, as one of the co-authors. It is House Bill 498, Babcock and Creighton, authors. At present the period between foreclosure and filing of complaints for foreclosure is one year.

Creighton's bill, which would prevent operation of public dances after midnight in rural districts, has passed third reading. It is designed to prevent late operation of summer resort public dance halls to the detriment and annoyance of nearby property owners and residence.
