10 Years Ago Kosciusko Shrine Club officers for 2005 are Robert Burner, president; William Newland, vice president; Jimmy Fleming, secretary; Dr. Richard Carman, treasurer. National FFA Week saw members take several top 10 places during the dairy judging competitions at Purdue University. Lynette Barkley has been advisor for the Warsaw Community High School FFA nine years, and she and co-advisor Kraig Bowers also teach agriculture and business courses. Kosciusko County Goat Club wants a barn, a roof and solid floor for the many project animals shown at the 4-H fair each year. Sue Studebaker began the club 20 years ago when her daughter, Janet (now Moore), acquired some goats while in high school and 4-H. Bob List of Bob List Photography, Warsaw, received a silver award for his entry in the Michiana Professional Photographers Association in Elkhart, “Just Ewe and Me Kid.” His photographs will be on display at the store through February. Jeanne Rondot, Rockhill, Pinnick, Pequignot, Helm and Landis, has been named by the Warsaw Business and Professional Women’s Club as the 1990 Outstanding Young Careerist and will represent the BPW in district-wide competition in March. Warsaw police officer Robert Long and Jimmy the police dog visited the Greater Warsaw Cooperative Preschool. The children have been learning about community helpers, and Jimmy is one of the most unique and important members of the community. 50 Years Ago James Hunt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hunt, North Webster, and a senior at North Webster High School, received a trophy for “Best of Show in Junior Division” for his display of approximately 400 Spanish and Spanish Colonies stamps at the Muncie Stamp Show. The display scored 264 points of a possible 300. Hunt started his collection as a Cub Scout and added to it as a Boy Scout. Four persons from Kosciusko County are among 238 from Indiana University beginning eight-week student teaching assignments. They are Mentone: Diana Nellans, art at Warsaw High School; Syracuse, Becky Hart, physical education, Bloomington High School; and Sandra Swenson, home economics, Perry East Junior High School, Indianapolis; Warsaw: Jerry Lackey, music, Central High School, South Bend. 75 Years Ago Headed by Al King and Charles Hughes, the newly incorporated Warsaw Bottling Company has started remodeling and modernizing the old Collins Ice Cream plant at the north end of Fort Wayne Avenue. The new owners will continue bottling soft drinks and making ice cream with the latest up-to-date equipment. Margaret Ide, Lagrange, Ill., 1940 Purdue University graduate, has accepted a position in the Warsaw city schools as home economics instructor. She fills a vacancy left by Pauline George, who taught one semester but resigned to marry a man from Hammond. Harry Lewallen, superintendent of county schools, is sponsoring a birthday ball to raise money to buy the old one-room Dunham school house, one-half mile south of Barbee Lakes. He began his teaching career here.
