Justin Butts, 18, a Warsaw Community High School senior, is one of just two Indiana students who are semi-finalists for the Ernest Hemingway Writing Awards for High School Journalists. Butts is a semi-finalist in the commentary category for his two pieces, “As the Pages Burn” about Banned Books Week, and “Tis the Season ... For What?”, a column on how people complicate the holidays needlessly. While he enjoys journalism in high school, it is not a part of his occupational goals. He plans on being a paramedic.

Fire of undetermined origin completely destroyed a large barn on the Alton Robinson farm one and one-half miles southeast of Leesburg Sunday morning shortly after one o’clock. It is believed the fire was caused by a fallen electric light wire, which collapsed under the weight of a sheet of ice during Saturday’s freezing rain. The fire drew hundreds of spectators from Warsaw theaters and dance, which were just out at the time when the fire was at its height. Damage was estimated at $2,500.
