10 Years Ago Bob List of Bob List Photography attended the Professional Photographers of Indiana state convention in Indianapolis. Six of his prints were accepted by this year’s competition. He was given the Silver Award for a portrait of the Kevin and Megan Stone family of Winona Lake created in the Biblical Gardens last fall and titled “Indian Summer.” The portrait will be on display at Bob List Photography until the end of February when it will be sent to a regional competition. After nearly 31 years of service to Kosciusko REMC, billing/capital credits clerk Judy Lemaster announced her retirement. She was honored with a private reception Feb. 4, and CEO Steve Rhodes said, “It has been a pleasure working with her and wish her only the best in retirement.” 25 Years Ago Sgt. David Hudson, Jumpmaster from the 82nd Airborne Division of the Army, was stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. when his battalion was notified to be on alert, but were not told where they would be sent. At 2 a.m. Dec. 20, 1989, he was part of the invasion of Panama to help liberate the people. Sgt. Hudson, a 1984 graduate of Tippecanoe Valley High School, spoke about the invasion to Professor R. Wayne Snider’s history class at Grace College. The record-high temperatures Thursday brought Christy Damer, LaGrange, a freshman at Grace College, outside to study her Russian text. Friends of the Warsaw Community Public Library and director Ann Zydek announced a logo design competition to be used on printed materials and promotional items. Criteria for the design: use a singular color, do not include any wording, and do not depict the present library facility, as a renovation project is underway. 50 Years Ago Warsaw’s Fitzpatrick Paint Manufacturing Corp. was founded in 1909 by the late Orth Fitzpatrick of Plymouth. He moved the plant to Warsaw in 1924, and it has occupied the same location for 41 years. Russell Bixel acquired ownership of the company in 1939 which has continuously expanded its business. Today, Bixel and his wife, Marie, live in Melody Acres, northwest of the city, and is president of the company while their son, Don, is secretary-treasurer. 75 Years Ago County Commissioner William Dorsey, County Highway Supervisor Stephen R. Laughlin and Ray Smith, highway department secretary, went to Chicago to attend the road equipment show. They went by train as the highway between here and Chicago is reported to be in dangerous condition due to ice. Warsawans are streaking like the wind to Indianapolis and Chicago to see the much-talked-about movie, “Gone With the Wind.” North Lake Street’s John Boice, theatre manager and one of Warsaw’s tip-top ranking tennis players, took some 300 feet of technicolor film during his recent Florida vacation with the Mrs.
