    Karilyn Metcalf, a music teacher at North Webster Elementary, recently was honored at the Indiana Music Educators Association Convention in Indianapolis.

Metcalf received the Distinguished Service Award for her accomplishments as a 28-year member of IMEA, as an active member and officer in the Teacher Association, for taking an active role within the Wawasee School Corp. and for promoting music education in the community.

    Troy Gilbert, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Gilbert, Syracuse, a sophomore majoring in telecommunications, will be one of 16 members of the Indiana University Memorial Union Board of Directors, supervising the majority of campus programming for the 1983-84 school year.

The board is responsible for organizing concerts, lectures, films and special events.

February 16 1958

    Silver Lake vocal students at the district piano and vocal contest at Fort Wayne received four superior and five excellent ratings, it was reported by John H. Keim Silver Lake School music director.

Those receiving superior ratings were vocalists Mary Clinker, Karen Freed, and ensemble personnel Mary Clinker, Linda Walther and Elaine Drudge, trio, Karen Freed and Linda Walther, duet.

    NORTH MANCHESTER - Vernon VanDyke, Manchester College senior, won first place in the annual state collegiate oratorical contest held here.

VanDyke, whose home is at Winona Lake, will represent Indiana at the regional oratorical contest to be held at Northwestern University in the spring. He was awarded a gold medal and $50 in cash.
