Hall & Marose Agency, established in 1920, received the “Service Business Award.” 25 Years Ago The Warsaw Bowling Association’s Annual Hall of Fame Banquet will be held Feb. 25 in the Shrine Building at the fairgrounds. Dick Weber, winner of 17 PBA titles, will be the featured speaker. In local tournament action, the team of Terry Cotton and Bill Holderman won the Steve Ross Doubles, their combined total giving them 29 pins over their average in the final round; second place, Jerry Rooney and Kevin Shepherd; third place, Garry Smiley and Glen Grubbs; fourth, Mike Yargosz, Jim Bolling; fifth, Steve Mawer, Tony Rowe; and sixth, Kim Eaton, Roger Hyde. The Kosciusko County Shrine Club will transport county third-graders to the Shrine Circus in Fort Wayne Feb. 3. Last night they were hard at work packing more than 1,500 sack lunches. Bertsch Food Services donated the facility; Penguin Point donated the food. Mike Ringer is general chairman for the circus this year. 50 Years Ago The Rev. John Becker stated that Sechrist and Bennett have been given a contract for redecorating the Warsaw First Christian Church. All work will be completed for a dedication service before Easter. The remodeling program was started four years ago with the fellowship hall, nursery facilities and class rooms. Complete redecoration of the sanctuary is now being undertaken. Joseph Dombek, 103 Fifteenth St., Winona Lake, will present a chalk talk Jan. 12 at the Winona Lake First Presbyterian Church. Dombek is a well-known local artist and layman of the Winona Lake Brethren Church. 75 Years Ago Warsaw many years ago had a muskrat farm operated by Henry Outcelt just on the northwest edge of the city limits, where Henry fenced in about 10 acres of Tippecanoe River marshland adjoining the highway. High spring waters, yearly overflowing the fenced-in land, got higher than the fencing and many muskrats escaped from the enclosure. Henry finally abandoned the undertaking. Howard Kimes, Curtis Silveus and Hubert Fawley continue to successfully raise silver foxes on the Fox Farm two miles northwest of Warsaw. Fred Gilliam of Chapman Lake, five miles northeast of Warsaw, is operating Kosciusko County’s first mink farm. He has 16 fine mink, valued at from $40 to $50 each, in pens. He expects to develop a sizeable mink ranch soon.
