This January marks the 112th birthday of this newspaper. Reub Williams, grandfather of the present publishers, recognized the need for a newspaper to serve Warsaw and Kosciusko County. The building in which the office was located was little better than a barn. The rooms were unplastered and there was no underpinning around the building. In 1884, Williams wrote of the embarrassment experienced when they failed to get out the second number after boasting that not a single issue would be missed in a whole year. “The weather was quite mild at the time of the issue of the first number and did not interfere with the printing of the paper. Suddenly, there was a change. The cold became intense and the mercury for five or six days registered from 27 to 31 degrees below zero. To fail ruffled our pinfeathers terribly.”
