    Warsaw's Richard Katte placed first in the age 50-plus division of the seventh annual Indiana Martial Arts Championship.

Katte, who trains at the Darma School of Taekwondo in Warsaw, took first in the blue belt level. He received a 3-foot trophy.

February 12 1984

    NORTH WEBSTER - The town board named a 28-year-old woman to head its police force, becoming the first community in Kosciusko County to have a female as its top police officer.

Judy Coleman was unanimously appointed town marshall recently, less than a month after being placed temporarily in charge in the wake of Gregory Nance's resignation Jan. 18.

February 12 1959

    Tom Sittler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sittler, of Silver Lake, is having a successful year as player-coach of his company basketball team at Sandia Army Base, Albuquerque, N.M. Tom's team recently won the base championship, with 15 wins and one loss. Tom was picked as the outstanding player on the base for the second consecutive year and was presented with a trophy.

February 12 1934

    John Gochenour, son of Mr. and Mrs. M.L. Gochenour, who is a student at Harvard University, recently skated on Wollaston Bay, Quincy, Mass., according to information received by his parents. For the first time since 1875 the Atlantic Ocean was frozen at and near Boston. Gochenour reports having skated between eight and 10 miles to the Tombolas and back.
