    Sherman Bryant, Kosciusko County SWCD supervisor and treasurer of the Indiana Association of Soil & Water Conservation Districts Inc., recently received the IASWCD president's award from Garry Tom of Syracuse, head of the IASWCD. Bryant received the award at the recent Annual Conference of Indiana SWCDs in Indianapolis.

    The four winners in the DAR Essay Contest are fifth-grade winner Robert Gravis, Washington School; sixth-grade winner Teresa Smith, Lincoln School; Rebecca Van Schepen, seventh-grade winner; and Kevin Cummings, eighth-grade winner, both are middle school students. The winning entries were selected from more than 600 contestants. The topic of the essays was "Everyday Life in Early America, 1750-1850."

    Philip Eggers won the Warsaw High School elimination in the American Legion oratorical contest with a speech titled: "The Constitution - Inspiration for America."

Bill Murray, who won second place with an oration titled "Against Tyranny," will be the Warsaw alternate.

75 Years Ago

February 12 1933

    A radio concert is put on at the Warsaw fire station nearly every morning from 7 to 9 a.m. for the benefit of "Skippy" the 10-year-old fox terrier belonging to Al Cuffel, Warsaw dog fancier.

"Skippy," a familiar figure in Warsaw, jumps upon a chair in front of the radio and cocks his head in a position similar to the advertising dog who "know his master's voice." That music has a soothing effect on "Skippy" was observed this morning as he sat in front of the radio with his eyes shut and at times appeared to be asleep.
