Edgewood Middle School cheerleaders qualified to compete at the national cheerleading competition Feb. 12. The girls began their trek to Disney World in Florida at 1 a.m., after a pep rally. Cheerleaders are Katie Caldwell, Olivia Cook, Brandi Gill, Cassie Haecker, Emily Kleinhans, Hanna Klondaris, Katie Klug, Caitlin Miclot, Adele Nelson, Naima Perry, Anne Quella, Ashley Ronk, Lindsay Bruner, Katie Marose, Britni Mullins, Ali Reith, Hilary Shepherd, Brenna Staton, Taylor Stahly and Ashley Wilson. Principal JoElla Smyth says that northern Indiana has never had any cheerleading group compete at nationals. Coaches are Carley Kleinhans and Laura Maxson.

Warsaw’s Lady Tigers walked to their fourth straight sectional title with a record-setting 81-31 victory over Wawasee in the Warsaw Sectional championship. Coach Will Wienhorst said “the girls were ready to play.” Wawasee coach Jim Hite was also proud of his girls.
Congressman John Hiler presented an American flag, which had flown over the White House Nov. 30, 1989, to Syracuse Town Council representatives Carl Myrick, Kenny Johnson and Carol Koble. The flag replaces one presented to the town by Hiler in May 1986. Sen. Robert Meeks and Rep. David Wolkins presented an Indiana State flag to the Syracuse Town Council.

Warsaw Community High School band concert Jan. 27, directed by Bazil O’Reilley, includes trombonists Robin White, Steve Moore, Jim Cable, Ronald Richard and Ed Garrett; Bill Loop plays a cornet solo accompanied at the piano by his mother; Steve Devenney performs on the timpani.
Mrs. Fred McKown, county Red Cross chairman, presented the 40-year bar to Mrs. Hobart Creighton in recognition of her dedicated service to the community through the organization’s services. Ann Marie Benson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rob Roy Benson, is proud of her grandmother for receiving this award.
Diane Lowman has been named 1965 Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow at Akron High School. She was this year’s homecoming queen, has been a varsity cheerleader for four years and plays in the high school band.

 Warsaw’s Junior Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a bi-weekly gym class at the newly-built high school for anyone over the age of 21. Badminton, basketball, tumbling, indoor baseball are several recreations offered.
Hallie Symonds, linotype operator at the Daily Times, is confined to his home, North Columbia Street, with influenza.
    Pennsylvania main line passenger and freight trains were sidetracked for five hours Saturday when a fast freight grain car dropped down upon the tracks west of Warsaw after a hot journal (end of axle which turns in a bearing) broke. The loaded box car stopped traffic at 3:20 Saturday afternoon and traffic was routed around it while a wrecker came from Fort Wayne to lift the car.
