10 Years Ago Pierceton Town Council members Jerry Kreger and Terry Hill presented a plaque to outgoing councilman Ron Hall after 12 years of service. After 2 to 4 inches of snow fell overnight, northern Indiana surpassed the 100-year snowfall average by 2.7 percent. The average snowfall for the October through January season is 21.1 inches; as of Monday, northern Indiana had received 23.8 inches. An additional 2 to 4 inches is expected today. Dave Tackett said that Warsaw Street Department crews have been out salting roads since 6 a.m. and plowing since 7 a.m. Schools all across northern Indiana are closed for the second day in a row. She helps her father-in-law with the farming of their 600 acres. Warsaw Community High School Tigers boys swim team remained undefeated by defeating Wawasee 96.5 to 75.5 in a Northern Lakes Conference showdown at the Tiger Pool. First-year Warsaw Coach Tim Brannock was very happy with his team’s effort. Wawasee Coach Tim Caldwell thought it was a good meet. 50 Years Ago Ardel Hanna, boxing instructor at Baker Boys Club of Warsaw, reported that 12 boys have signed up for the boxing program to be held three nights a week: Tom Gatke, Mike Davis, Lee Neal, Dan Wallen, Larry Landis, Joel Light, Steve Light, Dane Lane, Errol White, Butch Chapel, Brad Sprague and Alan Hepler. Director Robert Lichtenwalter reported that five events are planned for the “Games Room Tournament” to be held Jan. 15 at the club. Activities are checkers, ping pong, box hockey, bumper pool and pool. 75 Years Ago M.A. Markley has been elected president of the newly organized Chamber of Commerce at Milford. Harold Myers is vice president; Emory Little, secretary; and H.C. Snyder, treasurer. All members of the Warsaw Police Department were admitted to membership in the volunteer fire department at a meeting in city hall. Assistant Chief of Police Judd Pittenger was elected secretary and treasurer. Herbert Thompson, fire chief, re-appointed Link Hay, night officer, as assistant chief of the fire department; Virgil Bibler, captain; Will Walgamuth, first lieutenant; and Sam Lowman second lieutenant to succeed Charles Andrews. Prosecuting attorney and fireman Jacob Koontz was elected trustee.
