10 Years Ago Award-winning New York Times journalist and eight-time author Doug Frantz is coming home soon. During his hometown visit, the Manchester High graduate and former North Manchester News-Journal reporter will lead discussions at Manchester College and Manchester High School about Middle Eastern perceptions of America. 25 Years Ago The Jefferson Elementary School special education class of Michelle Marshall and Nancy Dickerson recently built a small town out of cardboard in their classroom. The project was built to encourage the pupils to develop an understanding of the community around them, as well as serving for a springboard for beginning map skills and career awareness. Pupils who participated in the project include Mandy Dragoo, John Teune, Jeremy Criswell, Mark Keiffer, Hope Baugher, Derrick Dausman, Montgomery Richards, Jason Breeding, Tia Shafer, Teresa Bubb, Sarah Gibbs, Jeff Horning and Greg Gibson. 50 Years Ago Jack Wells, chairman of the Syracuse-Wawasee Winter Carnival, estimated today that there were 8,000 to 10,000 persons who viewed the events held recently on Syracuse Lake. Wells said the committee had decided that the event would be held next year. He said the turnout was larger than anticipated and already discussions were being held to make improvements on the affair. 75 Years Ago Bill Callahan, student at Purdue University, Lafayette, will spend the weekend with friends in Warsaw.
