10 Years Ago Ann and Kent Myers saw the need for a place where young adults could gather for music, games and conversation. “20somethings” meet at 8 p.m. on the first and third Fridays of every month at the Summit Building, the old Champs store, corner of Market and Buffalo streets in downtown Warsaw. The group is planning a Super Bowl party Feb. 6. Deb Wiggins and Dan Robinson were sworn in Jan. 10 as the newest members of the Warsaw School Board, replacing Jim Folk and Craig Allebach. Other members are Larry Chamberlain, Gene England, Cathy Folk, Mark Minatel and Ron Yeiter, president. Gene England was unanimously approved as secretary. 25 Years Ago Taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather, Dan, Tim and Pete Harter, Warsaw, tried out the new basketball courts at Boggs Park. Raymond “Butch” Barker, Cindy Pritchard and Kim Hartman were recognized for 15 years of service at Village Plumbing and Heating. 50 Years Ago The Wesleyan Methodist Church, West Market Street, will conduct revival services each evening at 7:30 from Jan. 4 through 10 with the Rev. Gene Clark of Argos as speaker. The Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Westafer, Silver Lake, will be in charge of music and special singing. The Rev. Jesse H. Jackson, pastor, invites the public to attend. The 48th annual Kosciusko County Basketball Tourney at Warsaw Jan. 6, 7, 8, 9, 1965: Wednesday – Leesburg vs. Larwill; Claypool vs. Pierceton; Milford vs. Akron; Thursday – South Whitley vs. Mentone; Silver Lake vs. North Webster; Friday – Syracuse vs. winner of Leesburg/Larwill game; winners of Claypool/Pierceton and Milford/ Akron; Saturday afternoon– winners of Thursday’s and Friday’s games; championship at 8:15. 75 Years Ago Pete Thorn begins his 16th year as director of the Baker Boys Club with an enrollment of more than 400 youngsters. Boys quartered for the past 15 years in the Coleman Building above the Sharp Hardware Store are expected to move in the near future to their new home in the Warsaw High School building. The Brunswick Company, makers of bowling alleys, has leased rooms above the Sharp Hardware Store, formerly occupied by the Baker Boys Club. They plan to install $15,000 worth of new and modern equipment – six-alley bowling alleys and a recreation hall. William Coleman, who handles business for the Peashwa Improvement Company, owners of the building, is one of the largest stockholders in the three-story Sharp building, and closed the contract Dec. 4, with the Brunswick Company.
