10 Years Ago Jerry Patterson was nominated and approved as president of the Warsaw City Council for the fifth year Monday. He represents District 4. Councilman George Clemens was named to the traffic commission and Bob Morrison to the aviation board. Also on the Council: Jeff Grose, Bill Rhoades, Charlie Smith, Joe Thallemer. Brad Wood, son of Joseph and Deborah Wood, North Manchester, became an Eagle Scout Dec. 14, Troop 465. His service project was constructing benches for the nature trails at Timbercrest Retirement Community, from designing to staining. When he was 10, he earned the Arrow of Light, the highest award for Cub Scouts. 25 Years Ago Aneta Fifer is honored for her 10 years of service at Lake City Bank. With her are president R. Howard S., Raymond and Floyd Smith, Leesburg brothers and operators of the Leesburg Grain and Elevator Co., have purchased the Farm Bureau Co-op Elevator at Pierceton. Howard, president, stated the change of management would take place Jan. 1 and be known as the Pierceton Elevator Co. Floyd will be manage and Ernest Hartsol retained as coal manager. 75 Years Ago William Sheffield, 72, recalls the time 52 years ago, when he was one of the two Warsaw Times newsboys delivering the morning newspaper then covering all territory east of Buffalo Street. Daily Times delivery cars moving away from the city cautiously in a drizzling rain at 6 a.m. with the morning edition to be dispatched throughout the county. Bob McGlennan is night editor. Sportswriter, Mush Warner, is making plans to cover the Manchester football game Saturday. Three new applicants to the Warsaw Police Force have filed with Mayor C. C. DuBois for the vacancy left by the resignation of Police Officer Ivan Ginn. Candidates must submit to a severe physical examination under recent requirements passed by the state. Charles Goshert will continue to serve until the candidate has qualified.
