    North Manchester Police Chief Linda L. Learned honored two North Manchester police officers recently for bravery. In October, officer Jerry Walton and Sgt. Scott O. Fairchild saved Richard Frantz’s life, Learned said, when they entered the burning residence “with no thought to their safety.” The smoke overwhelmed Fairchild after he entered the building first. Walton followed him and retrieved the man. Fairchild was treated and released from Wabash County Hospital for smoke inhalation. Walton was uninjured.

    Kosciusko County Clerk Jeanne Weirick – whose official title is clerk of circuit court – announced recently her intentions to seek re-election. Weirick, a Republican, has worked in the clerk’s office for 14 years, beginning as a fifth deputy. She became the first deputy for two-term clerk N. Jean Messmore. Her husband, Gerald, is a supervisor at R.R. Donnelley and Sons, Warsaw. They have three daughters and reside in Warsaw.

   Pfc. Phillip Dierks and Pvt. Steven Dierks, the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Dierks of Claypool, were home on leave recently. While home they were guests of their grandmother, Mrs. Lillian Custer, at a dinner. Pfc. Dierks is stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky., and Pvt. Dierks is stationed at Fort Knox, Ky.

    Miss Dorothy Watson, daughter, of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Watson, Warsaw, who has been taking a nurse’s course in the Jacksonian Hospital in Miami, Fla., has passed all tests and received her cap. Miss Watson will continue her work in that city, word was received in Warsaw recently by telegram.
