Many persons gathered at the county fairgrounds in Warsaw Sunday night for the 12th Night ceremonies, highlighted by the “Burning of the Greens.” Fire Chief Norman Banghart and fire truck driver Bob Gearhart supervised the actual burning of hundreds of Chrismas trees. Warsaw Mayor Paul “Mike” Hodges welcomed the crowd and State Senator Paul Bilby gave the invocation. The Warsaw High School choir sang several numbers while the trees burned. Jim Bell was the Chamber of Commerce civic participation chairman.

Eddy Boyer, young son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Boyer, and George Eddington, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Eddington, both of Winona Lake, were overlooked in the write-up given the other members of the Polar Bear Club last New Year’s Day. These boys missed the publicity because they did not bother themselves to make a big hole in the ice to take their dip and notify reporters. They were strolling nonchallantly on Winona Lake around McDonald Island when they came upon a spot not thick enough to hold them up. Neither suffered from the unexpected dip.
