The Rodeheaver Series for the Performing Arts will present the Indianapolis Opera Ensemble in concert Jan. 16 at the First United Methodist Church, Warsaw. The program is called “Opera a la Carte,” dispelling the myth that opera is boring.
The Hoosier Lakes Radio Club held its annual banquet at Richards Restaurant in Warsaw Jan. 6. The Ham of the Year plaque was presented to Jack W. Worth, treasurer, by club president Joe Sanburn. Worth was first licensed in 1967 in Edna, Kan., and moved to Indiana in 1972. He has been pastor of Dutchtown Brethren Church for the past 6-l/2 years.

 Steve Lawton of Max Capel Motors was given the Silver Chapter Award for parts department excellence from the Mazda Car Company. Roy L. Smith, of United Telephone of Indiana, Warsaw, was named United’s customer relations award winner for his role in helping evacuate a Columbia City nursing home from a fire in September.
Joe Kessie and Neal Carlson of First National Bank, Warsaw, awarded Terry Templin, son of Jerry and Jane Templin, Leesburg, a scholarship to attend the Purdue University Winter Short Course Program in general agriculture.
Eddie Creighton was elected to serve as chairman of the Kosciusko Board of Commissioners for 1990. Charles Lynch, 1989 chairman, nominated Creighton. Maurice Beer, northern commissioner, will serve as vice chairman.

Dr. Jasper A. Huffman, dean and president of Winona Lake School of Theology for 25 years, had his biographical sketch published in the “Who’s Who in America Biography” in 1922 and has appeared in every succeeding edition since. He is now editor-in-chief of the Sunday School publications of Lambert-Huffman Publishers in Winona.
Dean Middaugh, a veteran of the Nappanee Police Department for nine years, was appointed chief by Mayor Robert Sinclair to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Jack Klopenstein, who remains on the force as a sergeant.
In his first official act as new city chief of police, Donald Snyder reported that all city officers will be given instructions in first aid by an instructor from the Kosciusko County Red Cross. The course will be held in the council chambers of the city hall.

The Carter Department Store, located at the corner of Market and Buffalo streets, is new and completely remodeled.  Opening is being celebrated this week (Nov. 22) in collaboration with a sale that ends Saturday. Owner and operator is L.E. Carter with Mrs. Josephine Smith as a clerk.
Movietone news pictures of Warsaw’s Dave Rankin, Purdue University football star, in action in the Purdue-Notre Dame football game, will be shown at the Strand Theatre. Rankin has earned the reputation of “iron man” because of his marathon playing against Purdue’s opponents.
Esther Pfleiderer is Center Ward’s geometry, algebra and social studies instructor. She would spring stiff tests on her students the last Friday of the month.
