10 Years Ago The Grace Saxophone Quartet was formed in the fall of 1998 at Grace College, Winona Lake. Recognized for its excellence, the group has played for a number of colleges and universities in northeast Indiana as well as during high school and community arts organization programs. Members of the Grace Saxophone Quartet are Andrew Brightbill, Rev. Rodney Bollman, Benjamin Essick, and Dr. James Chandler. 25 Years Ago Attorney Byron L. Tinkey was sworn in as Kosciusko County small claims court referee Jan. 4th by Judge James Jarrette. The referee position was created last year by the Indiana General Assembly and Kosciusko County to take the burden off a heavy caseload in county court. Tinkey will begin work this week. 50 Years Ago The Otho Pipers (Charlotte, Peg, and “Shorty”) recently left for a vacation to sunny California. It is expected they will stay about one month and visit the Hollywood, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas areas. Shorty is the owner of Piper’s Melody Acres, west of Warsaw. 75 Years Ago “Came at same hour as Santa” - A little bundle of humanity arrived on the Holy Night here at McDonald Hospital and a few days later was able to pose for his picture in the arms of Mrs. Ethel Akens, office manager of the hospital, with whom he had made a great hit. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kieber Hunter, Warsaw. His papa is employed at the Sears store here. His name is William Kieber Hunter.
