10 Years Ago Ashley R. Durcholz was the winner of the Voice of Democracy Scholarship Program sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126, Warsaw. Participants in the contest wrote, then recorded a three- to five-minute essay expressing their views on "Reaching Out to America's Future." Durcholz was presented with a certificate and a $100 savings bond by Quartermaster Bill Fleck.
25 Years Ago Warsaw officially kicked off its high school girls gymnastics program in winning fashion here Monday, beating Fort Wayne South Side 79-27. Katrina Curtis, who has been representing Warsaw as an individual performer in gymnastics for the past two years, led the Tigers in the all-around as well as the vault and floor exercises. Patty Veasey also was a winner for Warsaw on the uneven bars.
50 Years Ago Ruth and Owen Emerick of Warsaw plan to leave today for a six-week vacation in Arizona and California. They're taking along their French poodle, Nanette, and will spend some time in Fresno with Ruth's sister, Mrs. George Bullock. Bud Todd, also of Warsaw, will accompany them as far as Scottsdale, Ariz., where he'll visit Joe Autenrieth.
75 Years Ago The annual New Year's party of the Etna Green Monday club was held at the high school gym. Fifty were present to enjoy the sumptuous co-operative dinner and the social hour. The following program was presented: Tuba solo, Miss Maxine Kintzel; saxophone solo and clarinet duet, Mrs. William F. Kintzel, Jr., Miss Betty Ann Melick; duet by Mrs. Lorinda Guy and Mrs. J.W. Poor; piano solo, Jack Hamlin.
