    Christmas may not have been overly white, but the heavily coating of snow from the weekend storm has extended the Christmas break for area schools.

A weather emergency was declared for the city of Warsaw until noon today (Jan. 4) to allow for crews to clear snow from the roadways.

January 5 1984

    The Warsaw-based Lake City Bank has opened another new branch, this one in Milford. Ribbon-cutting ceremonies were held at the branch, which is on Ind. 15 in the corner of the building that also houses Schwartz's Supermarket.

January 5 1959

    Howard "Sam" Holbrook, Kosciusko County's first Democrat sheriff in 50 years, received the keys to the jail and the sheriff's badge from outgoing sheriff Carl Latta Jan. 1. Holbrook's wife, Isabel, is the new jail matron, and Robert Bayen and Max Ganshorn are the new sheriff's deputies.


75 Years Ago

January 5 1934

    An ice boat owned by Billy Mollenhour and Robert Caywood of Warsaw went through the ice on Center Lake. Mollenhour was steering the boat and was accompanied by Caywood and Jake Menzie.

Mollenhour did not see a small hole in the ice, which had been cut by Ernest Clase, Warsaw iceman, to test the thickness, and steered the boat into the hole. Except for getting a ducking the boys were uninjured.
