     U.S. Sen. Evan Bayh announced recently that the Cardinal Center, Warsaw, will receive a grant of nearly $750,000 for its Head Start program from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. “Head Start helps millions of American children start school ready to learn,” Bayh said. “We now know how critical it is to prepare children early on so they have the best possible chance to succeed in the classroom and beyond.”

     Move over Amtrak - the “Siberian Express” has made a stop in Kosciusko County. Temperatures today are only expected to reach zero with wind chill factors at 30 to 45 degrees below zero creating dangerous weather conditions. At 6 a.m., downtown Warsaw recorded a temperature reading of 9 degrees below zero with a wind chill index of 41 degrees below zero.

   The State Fire Marshal’s office has informed the Tippecanoe Valley School board that the Burket seventh and eighth grade school building has been condemned and must be closed at the end of the current school year - not to reopen in the fall of 1963. The two-story structure in Burket is just north of the new six room elementary building completed a few years ago.

   Mr. and Mrs. John Holderman, Frank Ohmart, Mrs. Frank Sanders, Robert and Lloyd Kesler, Lowell Ohmart, Mr. and Mrs. Merl Stookey, Mr. and Mrs. Zed Wiest, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Elliott, Miss Helen Clover, Dorothy Cassell, George Lambert, Ernest Kelly, Norman Kelley and Marion Warner were among those who attended the Big Four basketball tournament recently at North Manchester.
