 Chapman Lakes Foundation Inc. has received a major contribution from Crooked Creek Development Inc., developers of Greystone, an upscale 30 home subdivision on Chapman Lake Drive at Chapman Lakes. Dale Conley, corporation president, made the $5,000 contribution Dec. 31. “We want to help the foundation with its important project to help solve pollution coming into Big Chapman Lake, and Crooked Creek passes through a portion of our property.”

    Warsaw Community High School girls’ basketball won its third-straight Tiger Tourney title by beating West Lafayette in the championship game 91-44. The Tigers’ streak of three straight titles set a record for the first time any team has won more than two championships in succession. The Tigers’, raised their season record to 11-1 and their overall record in the Tiger Tourney to 16-4.

    Gloria Ann Butler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dorse Butler, of Winona Beach, will be among the 128 freshmen students who will receive the cap of the Indianapolis Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. It is the largest capping class in the history of the school.

    Five large swans flew from their home at Winona Lake a few days ago to Center Lake, Warsaw, a distance of two miles, in search of open water, their natural habitat, despite the coldest of weather. Winona Lake was completely frozen over so the poor birds were evidently without food or water. They found some on the surface of the ice at Warsaw’s municipal park. As Betty Melba Lee, daughter of Walter Lee and Darlene Finton, daughter of Darius Finton, of Warsaw and The Times cameraman, approached them, the hungry shivering birds jerked their heads from under their wings.
