It was out with the old and in with the new at Warsaw Housing Authority Board of Commissioners’ recent meeting. Sherri Ruggier-Milton was presented with a plaque in honor of her years of service to the board. Ruggier-Milton served from 1994 through 2001. “I’ve enjoyed it,” she said. “It’s with mixed emotions that I leave the board.” WHA board president Bob Kline passed along thanks on behalf of the entire board for Ruggier-Milton’s service. “We really appreciate what she’s done,” he said.

Dr. David Haines and Esther Stafford were named Warsaw’s Man and Woman of the Year at the 75th annual Greater Warsaw Chamber of Commerce banquet. They are the 28th recipients of the award, which began in 1959. Applicants for the award were reviewed by the chamber based on community involvement, leadership, and accomplishments. Plaques were provided by The Times-Union and WRSW AM-FM.

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer (Dolly) Curran, down Tippecanoe way, are proud of an autographed photograph of President and Mrs. Kennedy. The photo was sent to Mrs. Curran in return for a poem titled, “First Christmas In The White House.” The poem was written by Mrs. Curran and sent to the First Family at Christmas time. The picture now takes up a place of honor in the Curran’s business place, the Tippy Mirrorette in Tippecanoe.

Prompt action on the part of Warsaw firemen early Saturday in extinguishing a fire starting in the kitchen of Gill’s Restaurant, 105 E. Center St., saved the Grabner building and the Masonic building at Center and Buffalo streets from complete destruction. The restaurant was completely gutted and all new equipment and furnishings will have to be installed. The fire raged in the kitchen and through the skylight.
