10 Years

Jail Museum Gingerbread Extravaganza winners: (ages 1-9) Analiese Helms, first; Kaitlyn Ott, second; Alexis Himes, third, all of Warsaw; (ages 10-15) Michaela Waltz, Syracuse, first; Joel Helms, Warsaw, second; Rodrogo Hernandez, Milford, third; (adult winners) Irene Lehman, Milford, first; Anita Hernandez, Milford, second; Denise Rickel, Warsaw, third. There were 16 creations entered.

    Teaching kids about friendship, loyalty and being polite is Wagon Wheel Theatre's production of "A Year With Frog and Toad," running the first three weekends in December. Tony Humrichouser plays Frog; Robert Miller is Toad. They exchange Christmas gifts and realize that true friendship is the real gift.

 

25 Years

The first snow (Dec. 4) delighted youngsters throughout the area. Matthew Chase, 3, son of Mike and Cindy Chase, had his sled out at his home along the Tippecanoe River.

    Prairie View Health Care Center sponsored Santa's Workshop Saturday, Dec. 1. A craft and bake sale was conducted. Heather Starr had her picture taken on Santa's (Charlie Adams) lap.

    The combined seventh and eighth-grade bands will present their winter concert tonight, Dec. 4, at the Lakeview Middle School auditorium. Phil Eherenman directs the seventh-grade band and Donna Person will lead the eighth grade.

 

50 Years

Leonard Stouder, Etna Green civil defense director, and Milo Clase, Kosciusko County civil defense director, conducted a search for possible radiation shelters in the town. After a complete survey of the town, three buildings met the requirements: Etna Elevator and Lumber Co., Mason and Sons Hardware, and the Church of Christ. The owners offered their assistance. Questionnaires will be sent to residents of the community, and preparations to stock the shelters are being made.

    Tri-Township School Board discussed razing of the buildings on the old Bourbon fairgrounds (1872 until 1962), purchased as a site for the new Junior-Senior High School. Tri-Township Corp. includes schools at Bourbon, Etna Green and Tippecanoe.  Superintendent Leonard Hewitt says part of the buildings will be retained for storage.

 

75 Years

Because of a case of infantile paralysis at Akron, the basketball game, slated for Friday night, Nov. 15, between Akron and Mentone, has been postponed indefinitely. The game was to be played at Akron.

    Truth Seekers Sunday School class of Packerton United Brethren Church met on Friday evening, Nov. 15, for their annual oyster supper. Rev. J.F. Bright gave an address, with music furnished by Jean and Dean Thompson, of Warsaw. Mrs. Bright sang a solo with Mrs. Ruby Cauffman playing the accompaniment on the piano. John Norris was named president; Alice Simison, secretary and treasurer; Edith Idle, chorister. Flower committee: Bertha Evans, Fae Hoppes and Carrie Holycross.
