Elizabeth Hann, of Warsaw, visited New York on Nov. 28 and attended a taping of the “Today” show. Actor George Clooney was a guest on the show that day, and Elizabeth was lucky enough to get her picture taken with Clooney and with “Today” co-host Matt Lauer. Elizabeth is the daughter of Daniel Hann, senior vice president and general counsel at Biomet.

Angered by an “intimidating” letter from Indiana High School Athletic Association Commissioner Gene Cato, the Warsaw School Board will appeal the ruling in Johnson Circuit Court that has made senior Rick Fox ineligible to participate in basketball this season. The board unanimously voted to adopt a resolution that employs a law firm to work in conjunction with the school attorney for the purpose of appealing the court decision on behalf of Fox and Warsaw Community Schools.

The second annual “Warsaw Volunteer Fireman of the Year” award went to John Ladd. Ladd, who has been a volunteer fireman for about nine years, received the recognition by vote of his fellow firemen. He is a clerk at the Warsaw post office, and resides in Warsaw with his wife, Harriet, and their two children, Linda and Larry.

Charles E. Ettinger, 76, is known to Kosciusko County farmers as “Speck,” the last of the old-time expert harness makers. Seventy-four of his 76 years have been spent in Warsaw. He learned his trade under his father and has been making fine harness since he was 16 years of age. His shop has been a hangout for many generations of Warsaw boys where “strap-oil” was dispensed to the uninitiated while Speck recited tales of pioneer days here.
