Mentone Principal Jack Fisher kept his promise to wash dishes Nov. 25 following the Thanksgiving meal at Mentone School. During a recent food drive, Fisher promised students he would wash dishes if they reached a goal of 1,000 cans. Students were happy to oblige, bringing in 1,200 items for Helping Hands to distribute during the holidays.
A Columbia City police radio dispatcher and reserve officer will join the Warsaw City Police as a patrolman Jan. 1, following approval by the Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety.
Four Times-Union "junior" merchants were named as top newspaper carriers of 1957 during a dinner celebration at Villa Nova restaurant. Winners are James Feldman, 16, son of Mrs. Charles Feldman, Mentone; Ronnie Grubbs, 11, son of the Rev. and Mrs. Luther Grubbs, Winona Lake; Robert Konkle, 12, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Konkle, Warsaw; and Rex Mast, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Mast, Pierceton. The boys were chosen on the basis of their school grades, customer relationship and all-around ability as newspaper carriers.
Word was received from Washington, D.C., that a patent has been issued by the patent office to Joe J. Ettinger, of the Zimmer Manufacturing Co., of Warsaw, for an improved leg splint.
