The Gold Wing Road Riders Association met Jan. 12 at Quaker Haven, Dewart Lake, for the annual awards and Fellowship Banquet. There were 45 members and guests present. Highlights of the 2002 riding year were the entertainment. Many adventures and misadventures were shared by several members. Jim and Barb Whitaker announced that they completed their goal of riding in all 50 states by riding a bike in Alaska and Hawaii in 2001.

Steve Hollar, a sophomore at DePauw University from Warsaw, has been the object of much media attention the past year or so. Now, he is switching hats, so to speak. Hollar has spent the month of January on an internship in the university’s office of public relations. Hollar, who is a 1985 graduate of Warsaw Community High School, is majoring in communication and economics at DePauw. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Charles Hollar, Warsaw.

Phil Scholl and John Fitzsimmons, who’ve been home from Purdue this week, return to West Lafayette Sunday. Both are freshmen in the school of science. Phil is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Scholl, Warsaw. John’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Fitzsimmons, Warsaw.

Warsaw’s national guard unit, Company L, 152nd Indiana infantry, departed early today for French Lick, where they will be assigned guard or rescue duty in the flood area. They were traveling in commandeered Wayne township school buses, carrying arms, full packs, extra heavy clothing and boots. About 60 men made the trip, under the command of Capt. Milo D. Snyder.
