Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins has been appointed to a seat on the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns executive committee and was named chairman of IACT’s audit committee, according to Marilyn Morrison of Warren. Wiggins has served as Warsaw’s mayor since March 1, 1997, and was a four-term third district city councilman.

Western Michigan University freshman running back Chad Hopkins, a former all-state football player at Warsaw Community High School, has been named to the Mid-American Conference All-Academic Team. Hopkins, a sophomore academically but a freshman in athletic eligibility, has a 3.32 grade point average on a 4.0 scale majoring in business.

Joe Gerard, of North Webster will have a special interest when astronaut John H. Glenn Jr. makes the first United States manned orbital flight. The two men started their training as Marine Corps pilots together several years ago and have remained close friends. Joe recently received a letter from Glenn. Gerard is a former North Webster High School and Michigan State University basketball star and later coached his home town Trojans.

Mr. and Mrs. William Chinworth of Warsaw were accompanied to Fort Wayne recently by Bobby and Mary Jane Stump of Pierceton. They attended the concert at the Shrine Temple where the world-renowned Austrian violinist Fritz Kreisler presented the evening’s program.
