 Kevin and Wendy Hite, Milford, adopted Aleeza, 8, from Belagroad-Dnestrousky, Ukraine, last fall. “She is our daughter, and I feel we’ve had her forever,” said Wendy. They hope to adopt Aleeza’s 13-year-old sister, Olga, this year. Olga is deaf. Kevin says, “Our family is not complete until Olga is with us.”
Warsaw’s Doug and Diana Kehler attended the inauguration ceremony of President George W. Bush with friend Glen Ruch, Warsaw, and his guest, Denise Ayers, Fort Wayne. Diana’s son, Mark Walker, is the chief of staff to Rep. Dan Burton and was able to supply tickets to the ceremony and the ball.

 Dr. John J. Davis, president of Grace College and Theological Seminary, announced that Carl J. Beridon had joined the administration as dean of enrollment. Beridon, a Michigan native, will head student recruitment, admissions administration, student financial aid and career planning.
Ronald L. Kreider, a seven-year reserve officer in the Milford Police Department, was sworn in as the new deputy marshal. Milford Town Council president Bob Phillips said the council had narrowed the field of seven applicants to three. He will attend the Indiana Marshal’s School at Plainfield, and is presently employed at Main Channel Marine, Syracuse.

Kenneth Garvin, Tippecanoe, is razing the old Nickel Plate Railroad station at Burket, which was closed a few years ago and has been sold by the railroad. This is happening across the county with the passing of the passenger trains.
Rainfall during recent days has resulted in water pouring over the dam at the outlet to Palestine Lake, which then empties into Trimble Creek. The attractive waterfall has been painted by artists from around the county.
Tiger yearbook and Kontac school newspaper staffs sold concessions at the county basketball tourney last week under the direction of Arleen Miner and John Schang. The first church concert this year for the Choir and Belles will be Jan. 24 at First Presbyterian, Winona Lake.

Lemuel Wood, Burket, was helping pack some 80 tons of ice in Beaver Dam Lake for resort proprietor John Grant when he slipped and fell into the icy water. He scrambled out. Wood says that ice-packing at Beaver Dam is finished but at Yellow Creek Lake, the last lake in Indiana to freeze over because of its many springs, the ice is not thick enough to start packing satisfactorily, not more than five inches.
Tickets are now on sale for the annual “President’s Ball,” featuring the music of Plymouth’s Dick Derf Orchestra and Warsaw’s East Main blonde bombshell of sweet swing, high school junior, Evelyn Hugo, holding down the vocals.
Hotel Hays waitress, Mattie Hipp, was rescued from distress by the mechanic bell boy when she started her coupe parked near the hotel and the motor went haywire, smoking like a volcano.
