  Bryce Durgin, an eighth-grader at Edgewood MIddle School, Warsaw, is the 2003 Kosciusko County Spelling Bee champion. Holly Kolberg, a fifth-grader from Syracuse Elementary, is the runner-up. Durgin, the son of Robert and Susan Durgin, was the countywide runner-up in 2000 when he was in fifth grade. Kolberg, the daughter of Cindy and David Kolberg, was in her first year of competition.

    Eleven patrons of the Triton School Corp. responded to an invitation from the architectural firm Clinton and Associates to offer opinions on what the elementary building should be. Superintendent Dr. Danny Bates told the school board last week this meeting would be a time to dream, to ask for the ideal in an elementary school building. However, George Clinton’s elementary program, as outlined, is a bare-bones, no-frills proposal making dual use of space in designing rooms for future options. He outlined the basic special needs of the Triton elementary community to those in attendance.

   The Jomac-North manufacturing plant in Warsaw, located on East Winona Avenue, was extensively damaged by fire and water about 5:50 a.m. today in a blaze that was apparently due to spontaneous combustion. Officials of the plant, where protective clothing and gloves are made, and Warsaw Fire Chief Norman Banghart would not estimate damage. Both Warsaw and Winona Lake fire departments were at the scene.

    Arthur B. Irvin, North Webster, recently completed 40 years of continuous business as owner and operator of a drug store, a record excelled by few businessmen in Kosciusko County. For more than 32 years Irvin was in business in North Webster. Eight years before moving to North Webster, he operated a drug store in Claypool. Prior to going in business for himself in 1898, he was a drug clerk in North Manchester and Warsaw.
