The second “Battle of the Bands” contest was held Jan. 18 at the YMCA Teen Night. Six local bands participated for three prizes and were judged in three categories. Seraphim walked away with the crown once again. Members of the winning band are: bassist Brian Seiffert, rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist Zach Woodward, singer Drew Etienne, lead guitarist Mike Ellis and drummer Adam Whitesell.

Liz Waltz, daughter of Mary and Gib Waltz of Tippecanoe Lake, received a second-place award and certificate of excellence in the spokesperson competition at the International Modeling Association “Hello Hollywood” talent convention. Waltz is a 1984 graduate of Wawasee High school and a 1966 graduate of Charmaine Finishing School and Model Agency, Fort Wayne.

Jim Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Miller, Warsaw, will go back to Purdue Sunday to begin the second semester of his freshman year in engineering school. A family reunion was held earlier this week at the home of the junior Wallace Millers in Marion. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Miller came from West Lafayette for the party.

Lakes in Warsaw vicinity were frozen Tuesday morning, giving local ice packers hope that they would yet be able to harvest and pack their usual natural ice supply this winter. John Lucas was cutting ice of a few inches thickness off Pike Lake Tuesday for local distribution. Placing several thin cakes together forms larger cakes for local use. An open winter has prevented any opportunity this winter to start the harvest here.
