Zimmer has purchased the Lake Theatre, with plans to convert the building to housing for visiting surgeons taking training courses at Zimmer Institute in the company’s headquarters on Main Street one block away. Scearce Rudisel Architects has been contracted to redesign the building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Brad Bishop, public affairs officer, said construction would start in late spring or early summer and be occupied by the end of 2006.
The Mallers brothers opened the Lake Theatre on the northwest corner of Buffalo and Main streets in 1948, the building being constructed by Paul “Mike” Hodges. The first show Oct. 1 was “Up in Central Park.” Nick Mallers retained the theatre and Warsaw Drive-In, opened in 1952, after the brother’s split company. Most recently, his granddaughter, Elizabeth McMillan, operated the Lake Theatre.

The touring Children’s Theatre Company from Manchester College presented “Sleeping Beauty” to Madison Elementary School students. The “Participation Players” are performing in elementary schools and libraries throughout the region this month, presenting the play 37 times in 13 days. Professor of communication studies, Dr. Scott Strode, is director.
Wildlife artist Laura Hill, North Webster, is the resident artist in the Warsaw Community Schools through April 1. She became interested in nature and art while living in Maryland and moved to Indiana in 1975. She produced the logo for the Indiana Wildlife Federation.
Roger Miller, North Webster, president of Kosciusko County Farm Bureau, attended the National Farm Bureau Convention in Okeechobee County, Fla. He was able to visit the largest milking operations, a beef ranch, vegetable farm and an alligator farm.

Eagle Scouts of Troop 75: Robert Whitney, Pierceton; Bud Long, Sid Sanderson, Michael Longenecker, Dewayne Busz, all Warsaw; Scoutmaster, Robert Pfeiffer. Troop 30: Jay Sensibaugh and Steve Wildman, Warsaw; Scoutmaster, Ben Briganti. Warsaw First Methodist Church held the ceremony with John Helfrich acting as chairman.
Carlyle D. Barnes, 71, became associated with the Citizens State Bank of Milford in August 1939 and served as cashier until 1959. At that time, the bank merged with the First National Bank of Warsaw and he was made vice president and branch manager.

 Herschel “Doc” Leiter intends to charge 25 cents admission to Elks’ club rooms as cover charge, stage floor show and patron’s dance to music machine, the proceeds going to the local milk fund.
Mary Moon accepted a position with the Warsaw Ice and Coal Company on East Winona Avenue. Walter Ross, Winona Lake, is an employee of the Pottenger Store. Victor Lane, Mentone, writes “Along the Way” column in the Times.
Jack Shoemaker, 7, son of Mr. and Mrs. Serman Shoemaker, slipped while crawling into the school hack and fell on ice. Dr. O.H. Richer used several stitches.
