10 Years Ago The Lakeland Community Concert Association will host an appearance by Anthony and Joseph Paratore Monday at Rodeheaver Auditorium. The brothers are considered one of today’s foremost keyboard duos, having appeared with orchestras throughout the United States and Europe. The brothers began their careers in 1973 when they presented their New York City debut. The Early Apostolic Training Center, just before the overhead bridge, Claypool, will celebrate its 14th homecoming service at 2 p.m. Jan. 25. The evangelist will be Harry Crace, Silver Lake. 25 Years Ago 1988 was a year of expansion and change for the Warsaw Community School System. Approval was granted in January 1988 for construction of a new high school, renovation of the present high school to join the existing middle school, construction of two new elementary schools on the east and south sides of Warsaw, and either the renovation of Atwood School or construction of a new school in Prairie Township. The freshman high building will be vacated in the summer of 1989. The old high school will be vacated and renovated for its planned opening as a middle school in September 1990. 50 Years Ago Ethel Bowser receives an engraved silver dish from the Rev. Carl Satre of the Syracuse Library Board in a ceremony honoring her for 18 years of service as Syracuse librarian. She retired Jan. 1 and has been replaced by Mrs. Jackson Ridings, Cromwell. Warsaw’s first “Junior Miss Pageant” will be held Jan. 14 at 8 p.m. in the Warsaw High School auditorium. Robert DeCelles, project chairman of the Warsaw Junior Chamber of Commerce, sponsor of the event with assistance from Kline’s Department Store and Cox Studio, said that his committee has nearly completed the acquisition of senior girls to compose the first event. Master of ceremonies will be John Kleeman, WRSW disc jockey. The state pageant will be in Bloomington in February; the national pageant in June at Mobile, Ala. 75 Years Ago License plates for motor vehicles and driver’s licenses for 1939 went on sale at the Warsaw branch of the state automobile license bureau in Indianapolis Dec. 12. The Warsaw bureau received 7,200 application blanks for passenger car licenses; 1,300 truck license plates; and 800 license plates for trailers. The Tri-Kappa Sorority sponsored an art exhibit from Hoosier Salon in Indianapolis at the public library. The Daily Times lobby is packed each Friday evening with basketball enthusiasts seeking reports of games in the county. Russell Miner had an object removed from his right eye by Dr. O.H. Richer. The object became lodged when he was using an emery wheel at the Miner Lumber Co.
