Joshua Lawrence, a home-schooled seventh-grader, is the Kosciusko County Spelling Bee champion for 2002. Lawrence, 12, took the title in the sixth round at Lakeview Middle School auditorium over Stephanie Henning, a homeschooled sixth-grader. Both Lawrence and Henning will receive $2,500 scholarships from the Homer Schoop Foundation, and Lawrence will go on to compete March 16 in the area spelling bee in Fort Wayne.

Warsaw Middle School Athletic Director and teacher Ronald K. Hutcherson has been named interim assistant principal at the school and will assume duties Monday. Hutcherson, 47, of Warsaw, fills the vacancy created by former Assistant Principal William Landrigan’s appointment as acting principal at the Freshman High School. Landrigan replaced Elten Powers, who accepted an assistant principal position at Huntington North High School in Huntington.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Dustin, of Warsaw, and her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Henry, of Kalamazoo, Mich., will leave for Miami, Fla., where they will attend the National Greens Keeper’s Convention from Jan. 29 until Feb. 2. Mr. Dustin is superintendent at the Rozella Ford Community Golf Course.

Stanley Pequignot, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Pequignot, Pierceton, is home from Indiana University for a brief vacation before the second semester begins. Stanley is a freshman in the school of business.

In honor of the birthday anniversary of Miss Charlotte Marie Butler, a party was given recently at her home in Warsaw. Games were played, gifts presented to Miss Butler, and refreshments were served. Those present were the Misses Bette Mikesell, Margaret Moon, Charlotte Ann Clover, Pat Shane, Jean Calvert, Eleanor Hatfield, Dolores Smith, June Lytle and Charlotte Marie and David Rankin, Robert Chambers, Tom Lancaster, Phil Lucier, Ernest Kelly, Don Butler and Charles Butler.
