    Marine Lance Corporal Rachael Harbes, daughter of Young Harbes, Milford, was promoted to her present rank while serving with Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Combat Development Center, Quantico, Va.

Harbes was promoted based on sustained superior job performance and proficiency in her designated specialty.

    POTPOURRI - Apples for the Students - Lincoln Elementary School fourth-grade reading teacher Marilyn Phillips may be passing out apples to her students after the class received national recognition in the good Apple Newspaper, a teacher-oriented publication, for being one of 20 national winners in a breakfast cereal contest. Judging on brain teasers to describe favorite cereals was based on accuracy, neatness, creativity and originality.

    Delores Cook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Cook, is winner of the Homemaker of Tomorrow contest held in December at Bourbon High School.

Having received the highest score in a written examination on homemaker knowledge and attitudes, Cook's paper will be entered in state competition.

    Wilda Mellencamp of Warsaw is included in the group of 32 Indiana University students who show an excellent rating in English composition. As a result of required English composition given to all freshmen and new students of the university, these 32 students were chosen for their high scholastic standing in the subject.
