The Wawasee Kiwanis embarked on a project last month to help the Grand Caillou Elementary School in Dulac, La., which was damaged by Hurricane Rita. Several thousand gently-used library books have been collected, sorted and boxed to be taken down the week before Christmas (Dec. 17) to restock the school's library. Also, 500 book bags are being filled with school supplies and fun stuff for the children.

   Chelsea Noble, granddaughter of Warsaw's Jeannine Cavell, will play in the Notre Dame-Tennessee volleyball game Wednesday, Nov. 30. She wears jersey No. 3 for the Lady Vols of Tennessee.

25 Years

Warren Arnold Shepherd, Pierceton, was recognized for exceptional performance of duties as a cook for the Army at Fort Polk, La. for 13 years. He was recognized for teaching food service operations and cooking to other employees.

    Local high school students attending the Sen. Richard Lugar "Symposium for Tomorrow's Leaders" at the University of Indianapolis Dec. 1: Kristin Hori and Laurie Bailey, Warsaw Community High School; Jenny Lotter and April Bouse, Wawasee High School; Matthew Rager and LeAnn Gaerte, Tippecanoe Valley High School.

    Madison Elementary is the "adopted school" of R.R. Donnelley; employees held story time throughout National Education Week. Jennifer Harting, human resources coordinator, read to Mrs. Eherenman's second-grade class.

50 Years

The oldest church in Warsaw, First Presbyterian, celebrates its 125th anniversary Sunday, Nov. 7, with Rev. Edward C. McCance, pastor from 1952 to 1961, delivering the sermon. The present pastor, William J. Vamos, came to Warsaw in 1962. After a buffet dinner, a film compiled during the last 25 years will be shown by Ralph Boice, and a "memory panel" in the fellowship hall moderated by Byron C. Kennedy. The Presbyterian Church was established in Warsaw on Nov. 7, 1840 with Rev. J. Wolff as pastor and nine charter members. A frame building was built in the early 1860s at the northwest corner of Market and Indiana streets, and in 1881, the cornerstone for a new brick church was laid. Miss Mary Z. Simons became a member in 1892, and Mrs. Frank Lynch in 1893. Both are still serving the church.

 75 Years

A  petition for a street light at the corner of Prairie and Morton streets, in the southwest section of Warsaw, has been rejected by the city council.

    The Marion College male quartette will sing at the Wesleyan Church here this coming Friday evening, Nov. 15, at 7:30 o'clock.

    Gov. M. Clifford Townsend today (Nov. 12) re-appointed Representative Hobart Creighton, of Kosciusko County, as a member of the budget committee. He has served on this important committee for a number of years.

    A Navy recruiting branch office was opened in the Warsaw Postoffice Wednesday morning, Nov. 13, and each Wednesday, from 9:30 a.m. until 3:20 p.m.
