10 Years Ago When the Salvation Army came to Warsaw in 1921, one of its first supporters was the Rotary Club. That relationship continues today, 83 years later, with Rotary raising a record amount for the “Tree of Lights” campaign. The annual Phillipson-Howe Day, in its 39th year, has raised more than $500,000 for The Salvation Army since it was founded in 1965 by N. Bruce Howe. Brigadier Brice Phillipson, Salvation Army officer, was a long-time resident of Winona Lake and active Rotary member until his death in 1972. The Rotary Club was founded in 1919, according to president Ken Locke. Howe has served as chairman for many years while fellow Rotarian John Hall has served as co-chairman since the mid-1980s. Members voted to change the name to Warsaw Rotary-Salvation Army Day for 2005. 25 Years Ago David Melching, president of the Builders Association of Kosciusko County, says that builders are preparing for the 1990 Parade of Homes at “The Dells,” located on CR 300N. Tom Miller’s Claypool Knights are one of the winningest teams in the state – they mauled White’s Institute 88-25 for their sixth consecutive victory of the season. Charles McKenzie, Coye Conley and Larry McKenzie combined for 71 of the total points.
