Warsaw Community High School senior Brandon LaFollette, son of Lynne and Gary LaFollette, signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Purdue University. He helped lead the Tigers to a sectional championship last season. Tippecanoe Valley senior Rebekah Parker, daughter of Lynn and Dianna Parker, will be playing basketball at the University of Evansville next season. She has helped lead the Vikings to a No. 1 ranking in Class 3A.
Craig Smith (Smitty at Breading’s Cigar Store) has accumulated a staggering record of pulling in bluegills while ice fishing.

 Lincoln Elementary School presented “A Cause for Mrs. Claus.” Directed by Bob Dillon, the musical featured Ethel Groat as Mrs. Claus, Nate Manahan as Santa and Julie Arnold as an elf.
Brownie Troop #95 of Jefferson School held a Rededication Ceremony Nov. 30 at Nye Youth Cabin for Angel Dittman, Sarah Lincoln, Kelly Packer, Melinda Shearer, Jenna Spear, Aubrey Zolma and Amber Poe. The girls received patches. Vicki Johnson was invested as a new assistant leader. Marilyn Shepherd was presented a gift in recognition of her five years of service. Brownie pins: Kasey Conley, Callie Edgington, Carrie Lowe, Charity Miller, Christa Gibson, Amanda Gibson, Lisa Schuh, Laura Wroughton and Amber Johnson.

As a climax to the Optimist Club’s “Youth Appreciation Week,” eighth-graders from the Warsaw Junior High School filled city offices. They were Valerie Elliott, clerk-treasurer; Jay Sensibaugh, chief of police; Ardith Reed, mayor; and John Lowe, fire chief. The “city officials” were elected by their fellow students under the direction of Carl Oxenrider, social studies teacher.
Warsaw High School Basketball Coach Ralph “Boag” Johnson said that Mike Chambers, Dean Rummel, Mike Niles, Bill Wiley and Dave Evans will carry the colors of the Orange and Black in the opening tip-off against Pierceton.

Lucille Cowan, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Charles Cowan, Converse, became the bride of Harold Irvine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Irvine, Leesburg, Oct. 1 at the home of her parents. The couple will make their home in Peru where he is employed with the Miami County Farm Bureau.
Monday witnessed the fading away of the county fair, the most successful in the county’s history. Throughout the week there were favorable weather conditions. The courthouse lawn, nursed all summer by Donald Weirick, was a scene of desolation after the milling feet of thousands.
Three youths tried to hold up Gresso’s store Saturday.
