10 Years:
Carol Boyer was named Genealogist of the Year at the Kosciusko Historical Society Nov. 16. But Boyer was 1,600 miles away when Genealogy Section president Marge Priser announced the award. Her first great-grandchild, Reagan Grace Lieneman, was born Nov. 13 in Lincoln, Neb. to Jeffrey and Lindsay Smith Lieneman. Last year's recipient was Marge Warren.
Zack Rooker, 12, of Warsaw, made a movie about Abraham Lincoln. The film, "Lincoln and the Civil War," was shot on location at many sites important to his life, and debuted at the Lincoln Museum in Fort Wayne Nov. 19.
25 Years:
Winners in the Winona Lake flag design contest: Tyler Zielasko, first place, his design will be used to make the town flag; Gloria Glant, second place; Adam Snively, third place. All are sixth-grade students at Jefferson Elementary. Honorable mention: Jessica Redford, Jason Zaugg, Karl Breeden, Marisha Leatherman, Beth Thomas, Kelly Packer, Jason Brunette.
Students in the Triton Home Ec Department made gingerbread houses and dubbed it "Trojan Village." Chad Schaetzle, Gary Anglin, Pat Thacker and Travis Hannah.
Alice M. Schilling, of Silver Lake School, has been included in the first edition of "Who's Who Among America's Teachers, 1990." She was selected by former students.
Angela Mikel, daughter of Seth and Julie Mikel of Etna Green, has been accepted for admission to Grace College, classes to begin in the fall of 1991.
50 Years:
Fredrick Gilliam will be sworn in by County Attorney Robert Rasor for another four-year term as commissioner for the middle district of Kosciusko County on Thursday, Dec. 30. His present term of office expires Dec. 31.
Talented Warsaw High School speech student, Kathy Bibler, entertained at the Warsaw Kiwanis children's Christmas party Wednesday night, Dec. 8. She imitated a young precocious child at a Christmas party who tests Santa's patience to the limit. Steven Gubi, of Atwood, entertained with a half hour of magic following a dinner.
A pony will be awarded to a lucky recipient at the Claypool School Friday night, Dec. 17, following the Claypool-Larwill basketball game by "the last of the Claypool graduates." Claypool School joins the Warsaw Community School system Jan.1.
75 Years:
Mrs. Jane Anderson, former Winona Lake and Warsaw resident, who is residing with her foster-daughter, Mrs. W.H. Foughty, of Decatur, will celebrate her 103rd birthday anniversary on Tuesday, December 3. For many years, she managed the "Homestead" in Winona Lake.
Dale Kelley, principal of the Mentone High School, has been named manager of the Kosciusko County basketball tournament during a special meeting Saturday afternoon, Nov. 30, at the office of County Superintendent Harry E. Lewallen. The site for the classic, to be held on January 16, 17 and 18, has not been selected. Drawing for the tournament will be staged at the superintendent's office at the court house on Saturday, January 4.
