Nappanee Missionary Church will host a special Christmas musical Dec. 13 and 14 at 7 p.m. The Worship Team presents “All is Calm, All is Bright,” featuring the 180-voice choir and the 25-piece NMC Band and Winds. The musical prelude each night is provided by the quintet Brass Menagerie. Soloists and narrators include: Bryan Waltz, Syracuse; Jay Dell, Bremen; Bobbie Glingle, Nappanee; Quoda Troyer, New Paris; Judy Borntrager, New Paris; and Lonnie Ramer, Goshen.

The Silver Lake Fire Department has selected Charles E. Slone as Fireman of the Year. He received a plaque and gold badge from Silver Lake Fire Chief Duane Sells. Slone was honored for his 25 years of service as a fireman and 17 years as secretary for the department.
Local artist John Woods, an alumnus of Grace College, will have his work featured at the Blue Heron Art Works, 1300 Center Street, through Dec. 31. John Hartman, owner of Blue Heron, thinks Woods is very talented. Woods’ paintings, which feature Indiana landscapes, reflect his background and beliefs. “Growing up in Indiana, I enjoyed exploring the areas around me,” he said.

Mrs. Zoe Talbott has announced stories for the library’s story hour Nov. 15: “Harry The Wild West Horse” by Eleanor Clymer and “The Golden Touch” by Nathaniel Nawthorne. Bourbon Public Library will have their story hour with Mrs. Glenn Ames.
Syracuse High School senior basketball players who received jackets were Brian Smith, Thomas Kramer, Paul Brewer, Roger Niles, Danny Jones, Jack Zimmerman and Dennis Buhrt. Von Schacht, yell leader, also received a jacket.
Millard Stookey, former Kosciusko county commissioner for many years, observed his 81st birthday Thursday at the farm home on Route 2, Leesburg where he was born

George Matthews, Rural Route 3, Warsaw, found a 10-pound fungus growth puffball  on the Foster Jones farm. The ball measures four feet in circumference. Puffballs of this variety are said to be edible if white clear through. Matthews will display his find at the fair.
Captain Ritz and five other expert motorcycle riders will race on the sides of a motordrome on Lake Street in a death-defying act.
A stamp-collecting exhibit which was first entered in the Fair of 1937 has a place again this year with the art and needlework department. One block of six of the Farley 16-cent special delivery airmail stamps are drawing considerable attention. The stamp as a single has a catalog value of 75 cents.
