Washington Elementary School fifth-graders in Gary Hawblitzel’s class made an appearance on WNDU Channel 16 recently. According to a Washington Elementary spokeswoman, Channel 16 news anchor Tricia Sloma promised to read to the class who brought in the most toys for this year’s Toys for Tots. Along with being read to, the class was featured on television and toured the WNDU studio. The class gathered approximately 590 toys for the Toys For Tots drive.

The fourth-grade classes at Lincoln Elementary School visited United Telephone and presented a Christmas program for the UTS employees. UTS recently “adopted” Lincoln School under the Adopt-A-School program. The goal of the program is to better acquaint a major taxpayer - business and industry - with the work of the schools. The fourth-grade classes at Lincoln are taught by Beverly Collins, Dorothy VanCleve and Lavon Harmon.

Mr. and Mrs. Ira Bliley of Clunette say it’s already Christmas at their house and has been since the day an industrious crew of neighbors and friends came in with tractors and saws and buzzed through a mountain of pole wood. It was cut to convenient stove length and hauled to the house. The crew included Loy, Claude and Mike Harman, Nilas Thomas, Don Cormany, Slim Lowry, Kenneth Baugher, Dale Besson and Jim Marsh.

Dr. and Mrs. Richard Ferguson of Richmond, Ind., Donald Ferguson, student at Tuskeegee University, Tuskeegee, Ala., and Jack Ferguson, student at Indiana Central College, Indianapolis, will spend the holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.W. Ferguson, Warsaw.
