  Wawasee High School varsity football awards: Jordan Swain, MVP; Kory Lantz, Phil Eskew Award; Ryan Christner, Gold Helmet; Tim Brumbaugh, Warrior Award; Jeremy Curry, MIP; Lance Zimmerman, Kodak Player of the Year; Ben Champoux, Special Team’s Player of the Year.
Warsaw Wesleyan Church and Wee-Care Ministry welcome new director Mary Ann Stuller, former director at Mentone Day Care for the last year. She has also worked in child care in Sturgis, Mich., and Colorado Springs, Colo.
Captain Mark Hazelet, Warsaw, was sworn in to the Indiana Guard Reserve by Lt. Colonel Jack Stump of Milford. The IGR has volunteered 351 man days and driven nearly 22,000 miles at their own expense in support of state, local community and National Guard activities, including working at Camp Atterbury.

Ione Jonas, records clerk at the Warsaw Police Department for the past 15 years, has announced her retirement. She was given a party Dec. 13.
The Freshman High Community Service Project netted more than 400 cans of food and 2,146 toys in a two-week collection period. Items will be donated to the Salvation Army. Student Council members: Carrie Helfrich, Cicely Ware, Amanda Keele, Vanessa Strayer and Tom McKinney, top collectors.
Grace Village Health Care resident Bernice Gridley celebrated her 103rd birthday Dec. 14. Before coming to the nursing home, she had lived in Winona Lake since 1952. From 1961 to 1973, she operated a ladies hat shop,”The Belveder,” on the southeast corner of the courthouse square. Her son, John, is a retired physician living in Minnesota.

Firman Sensibaugh, NIPSCO, and Maynard Ring, REMC, got a bird’s eye view of the city while installing Christmas decorations. The lights are scheduled to be turned on Nov. 27, according to Richard Coolman, chairman of the decorations committee. He also reported that six new 11-foot trees have been installed on East Center Street.
Workmen endeavor to complete the new YMCA building on East Smith Street by May. It will house a 28-by-75-foot swimming pool, a 30-by-20-foot workout room, a dual spectator room, an all-purpose room, locker and shower facilities, a tote basket room and the latest addition, a rifle range.
Sharon Mauzy was named “Frosh Queen” during  Homecoming at Parsons College in Fairfield, Ia. Her sorority won the sweepstakes award for best float in the parade.

 Report to the Warsaw police is that the missing automobile of Anna Winkler Brady, a 1934 Buick sedan, has been discovered at Whiting, Ind.
Instructor Wendel Walker accompanied 22 members of his vocational and civics class of the junior high school on a tour of the Times building.
Warsaw city school safety patrol boys were addressed by a representative of the Chicago Motor Club Wednesday at the high school auditorium as part of an extensive safety campaign. County Safety Chairman Elmer Funk, Winona Lake, presided over the session, and welcomed the Columbia City patrol boys and their principal. Alva Hudson, Mrs. Pete Ginn and Ina Stout, principals, were also present.
