10 Years Ago During the annual Christmas party, Warsaw Fire Department handed out service awards and named Mike Blackford the 2003 Firefighter of the Year. Fred Parrett was honored for five years of service; Todd Deaton, 10; Duane Patterson, 20; and Larry Baker, 25 years. The NorthWood High School Wind Ensemble will travel to Indianapolis to perform at the Indiana Music Educator's Association State Convention. This honor is bestowed upon the best ensembles in Indiana; NWHS Wind Ensemble is the only high school wind ensemble accepted this year. Burnworth, Route 5, Warsaw, an employee of Northern Indiana Public Service Co., retired Jan. 1 after serving 29 years. He began his utility career in 1934 as a laborer and in 1937 was made a clerk. That same year he became a driver-groundman, and in 1959, until retirement, a driver-operator in the Warsaw district. Mr. Burnworth is a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion. He's won many ribbons for his gardening and rabbit raising.
