10 Years Ago Kosciusko County Farm Bureau Inc. recently awarded five $500 scholarships to the 2002 high school seniors from Tippecanoe Valley, Triton, Warsaw, Whitko and Wawasee. The winners were: Philip Camden, Whitko; Miriah Wise, Tippecanoe Valley; Joshua Berry, Warsaw Community High School; Valerie Mock, Wawasee; and Deanne Colbert, Triton. 25 Years Ago Warsaw Park and Recreation Superintendent Richard Hamman and the park board were recognized by the Warsaw Evening Lions Club for assisting the organization. Lions Club President Chuck Hogan presented Board President Graham Rankin and Hamman with plaques during a park board meeting recently. Hamman, a long-time park employee, will retire in March. 50 Years Ago Ann Purdum, 16-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Purdum, Milford, has received her student’s flying certificate at the Goshen airport. Miss Purdum completed her solo flight recently after training for two years at the airport. Her father is a veteran pilot and is president of the Sturm and Dillard Gravel Company of Syracuse. 75 Years Ago A capacity crowd of more than 2,400 fans packed the big National Guard Armory Hall here Saturday afternoon to watch semi-final play of Kosciusko County’s 21st annual high school basketball tournament. Warsaw clashed with North Webster in the first game and Pierceton fought a stubborn foe in Burket. Winners will meet tonight to decide the championship. Warsaw, Burket, Pierceton or North Webster, lone survivors of a starting field of 14 teams, will reign as county champion tonight with only a matter of time delaying the decision.
