10 Years Ago Warsaw Community High School presents “The Pajama Game,” a musical that takes place at Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory in 1954. The employees want a 7-1/2 cent raise. Skyler Scott plays the new superintendent, Sid; Bethany Kinney is the head of the grievance committee, Babe; Phillip Swarts is the head of the company, Mr. Hasler; Elise Kline is his secretary, Gladys; Todd Bolt plays Hines, the factory manager; union president is Adam Hawkins. The orchestra pit consists of adults from the community. 25 Years Ago Warsaw School Board has nine candidates: Candace Cooper, Dr. Richard A. Dilling, Sara Lamb, Betty Jo Lemon, Gerald Patterson, Janet Weirick, Diane L. Quance, Richard Ridderman, Juergen L. Voss. Mike Rostochak and his 11-year-old son, Ron, drove into Warsaw from Larwill Wednesday afternoon to buy a Christmas tree from the Boy Scouts. Chris Anders helped them out. In about two years, Harold Slater plans to start harvesting trees on Slater’s Pine Knoll near Sidney. He started planting 2,000 trees a year in 1984 and 1985. He said, “They’re not quite ready yet. They need a couple more years to grow, then we’ll start the business.” 50 Years Ago All decked out to receive voters, come rain or shine, is Ralph “Sarge” Lichtenwalter with umbrella. He is the election sheriff at the City Hall, Second Ward, Third Precinct. Making his way inside is an early voter, James Klondaris, 311 E. Market St. A steady rain fell during the early morning hours but it seemed to have little effect on the city election turnout as 22.4 percent of the registered voters in Warsaw had gone to the polls during the first five hours. In 1959 only 19.3 percent of the registered voters had cast ballots in the city’s 12 precincts during the first five hours. 75 Years Ago Bob Buell, halfback of Warsaw High School’s football team, will be out of action for the next three or four weeks due to injuries sustained in the Tigers’ first game of the season. He injured an ankle in the Bluffton game. George Glant will fill his place. Buell is playing his final year for the Orange and Black. To Bob Bayne, ace backfield man, will fall the duty of kicking the Tigers out of danger in the school’s eight games scheduled this season. Bayne, newcomer to the squad this year, showed up exceptionally well in practice and Coach George Fisher is banking on the youngster to come through in fine style.
