Two long-standing Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department officers, Kosciusko County Sheriff C. Alan Rovenstine and Kosciusko County Sheriff's Capt. Burdell Blackburn, were honored Dec. 13 at the department's annual Christmas party. Both received shadow boxes containing several badges and memorabilia reflecting their years of service. Dec. 31, 1998, will be the last day of service for Rovenstine and Blackburn.
Mrs. Don LeBrun, Good Citizen chairman for Seek's Village Chapter, South Whitley Daughters of the American Revolution, announced the selection of Dennis S. Anweiler, senior class president of Whitko High School, Good citizen for 1983-84.
One day, a few months back, Bernice Baumgartner of Milford, who is a deputy in the county treasurer's office, discovered that a 1-1/2-carat sapphire was missing from her ring. A thorough search of every place she'd been that day, and some she hadn't been at all, turned up nothing. Eventually, Bernice became resigned to the loss of the jewel. Weeks later, she opened a certain record book to make a tax check. Lo and behold, there was the sapphire between the pages.
A Christmas pageant will be given at the Methodist Church titled "The Shepherd's Vision." The following will take part: James Pottenger, Milo Clase, Phillip Smith, Robert Shinn, Lionel Bates, Jack Sellers, Edith Ross, Sadonia Bruner, Lucille Coyle, Catherine Olds, Doris Lowman, Frances Bechdolt, Frances Ritter, Harry Watkins, Owen Russell and Floyd Funk.
