Pierceton Town Council hired Tiffany Fulk as a third police officer Thursday, Dec. 15. She has served the town as a reserve officer for one and one-half years, and is currently a Whitley County dispatcher. She will replace Terry Cahill, who resigned in November.

    Winona Lake Fire Department Chief Roger Gelbaugh presented the Fireman of the Year Award to his son, Kevin, during the department's awards banquet Dec. 10. Dave Yotter, who is retiring, received a service and chief's award. Receiving a chief's award: J.W. Anderson, Kip Shuter and Jeff Carroll, Grace Village executive officer who has paid for the fireman's Christmas party for the last several years.

25 Years

Mark Howard and Mike Wilson joined the Warsaw Fire Department in November. Howard was employed with Derry Electric, was a volunteer firefighter with Akron for the past three years, and is a member of the county's Squad 70 fire investigation team. He is a graduate of Tippecanoe Valley High School. Wilson was a Warsaw volunteer for 10 years, is a member of Squad 70 and a U.S. Army veteran in the military police. Wilson is a 1975 graduate of Warsaw Community High School. He was a salesman at Lakeside Chevrolet in Warsaw.

    Winona Lake Fire Department Chief Dick Haines presented the "Fireman of the Year" award to Ron Sellers Saturday, Dec. 15. Roger Gelbaugh, who has been with the department for 19 years, was presented with a service award.

50 Years

Warsaw Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, Chris Pheils adjutant, joined with 2,300 units throughout the United States in observing the 24th anniversary. CAP, an official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force, was founded in December 1941 by patriotic individuals who volunteered their services and own aircraft to patrol America's coastlines and borders. Throughout World War II, CAP pilots flew more than 24 million miles. Today, the local unit has 23 members co-operating with Civil Defense agencies in national emergency training and flying mercy missions.

    Dan Kuhn, Kay Williams, Ed Antonides and Sherry Yazel, of Mentone High School, prepare for the Art Department Christmas Bazaar to be held in the school cafeteria Tuesday, Dec. 14. Decorative ornaments, wreaths, stockings and bells are featured.

75 Years

Leesburg High School's junior class will present the play "Guess Again" at the school auditorium Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28 and 29. Irene Townsend is director. Cast includes Helen Kyle, John Anglin, Clifford Scholl, Charles Dye, Lois McDaniels, Dorothy Wallace, Mary Diehl, Viola Smith, Harley Robison, Gordon Edgar, Gene Goshorn, Lorene Plank, Helen Nine and Wayne Teeple.

    Austin Decker, of Claypool, was pleasantly surprised by his family Sunday, Nov. 24, on his 70th birthday.

    Atwood High School's cage quintet last night, Nov. 26, went into a tie with Pierceton for the county cage lead by defeating Burket High School's Hawks 33 to 13. Both teams now have four wins and no losses.
