Lauster and his wife, Libby, a teacher at Claypool Elementary, have a daughter, Cara Elizabeth. Richard A. Parker, Warsaw, retired after 42 years of service at Northern Indiana Public Service Company. Parker joined the company in 1947 as a meter reader and was a general service supervisor in the Warsaw district at the time of his retirement. Dick Clay, Warsaw, marked 35 years with United Telephone of Indiana. He began working for United on Dec. 12, 1954, as a lineman in Greenville, Ohio, before coming to Warsaw. 50 Years Ago Bruce Cripe, Syracuse, battled Norman Dukes, Leesburg, for the basketball while Larry Jones, Syracuse, assisted. The Syracuse Yellow Jackets bested the Leesburg Blue Blazers in a game at Syracuse by a score of 50 to 48. Syracuse police officers: Relief Marshal C.E. Holtz, Marshal Dan Ganger, deputy marshals Oscar Dahl and Fred Personette. A new addition to the county jail includes a reception room, sheriff’s office and a room to question prisoners, all in the space formerly occupied by the jail garage. City postmaster Frank O. Rarick predicts postal receipts will hit a new high by Jan. 1 – a whopping $3.5 million. When he took over in 1954, the yearly total was $265,000. 75 Years Ago Anxious Warsawans must wait at least another day before arrival of the giant snow-cruiser built for Admiral Byrd, which is designed to travel 5,000 miles over snow and ice with one year’s supplies. The mammoth machine required two hours to negotiate one corner in Chicago, its starting point. Bulletins will be placed in the Daily Times announcing the time of arrival and two blasts of the fire siren will sound when the cruiser nears Warsaw. Earl Kessler, Claypool, told reporters that he drove north beyond Valparaiso on Road 6 and saw the big cruiser there at noon today, making but 10 miles per hour. He did not expect the snow-byrd to reach Warsaw until late tonight. State police and highway members are clearing a passage for the monster machine.
