10 Years Ago Gerald Oswalt gave a fly-tying demonstration to the Scoutmasters with the introduction of the new Boy Scout Flyfishing Merit Badge. There are more than 100 merit badges available to earn. The Boy Scout Roundtables meet each month. Fourth and fifth-grade members of the Akron Spell Bowl Team coached by Priscilla Burdge completed their nine-week season by competing with 12 Northern Indiana elementary schools in the 11th Annual Indiana Spell Bowl at Goshen Middle School. Hawley, 602 McClellan St., Warsaw, more than stands as a symbolic figure on Veterans Day for he has served his country in four wars; the Mexican War, World War I, World War II and the Korean War. He enlisted in the Navy in 1913 at the age of 17 as an apprentice seaman and served a total of 21 years in the service. He was with the fleet that towed the first submarines from San Francisco to Hawaii. He proudly raises the American Flag each day on a 22-foot high flag pole that he made out of cedar, patterned after the Naval staff on a large battleship. “After several years, I found the right wood in Leesburg.” 75 Years Ago A nationally known demonstrator of the pressure cooker will be demonstrating every day during the Fair at the Sears-Roebuck store, 121 W. Market St., according to L. E. Murphy, manager. “We are going to turn part of our store into a kitchen.” It is estimated that a million women have agreed on the Kook-Kwick pressure cooker as one of the most effective labor savers, cooking a meal in 10 minutes.
