Long-time Salvation Army volunteer Marge Gast and Army Capt. Audrey Schneider checked their list twice before adding a toy to an Angel Tree Box. Toys and new clothing will be distributed to more than 330 children this year, the Salvation Army’s 80th anniversary of Christmas giving in Warsaw. Through the Angel Tree program and others, the Army has made the season bright.

This recipe was submitted to the Spotlight recipe contest for 4-Layer Pistachio delight Torte. 1 cup flour; 3/4 to 1 cup chopped pecans; 1/4 lb. margarine softened; 8 oz. cream cheese (room temperature); 1 cup confectioners sugar; 8 oz. Cool Whip; 2 (3-1/2 oz.) pkgs. instant pistachio pudding; 2-1/3 cups milk.

1st layer: Blend 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup chopped pecans, 1/4 lb. margarine; press into 9x13 pan. Bake at 375 degrees about 12 minutes. Cool. 2nd layer: Blend 8 oz. cream cheese (room temp.) and 1 cup confectioners sugar; add 1 cup Cool Whip. Beat with electric mixer until fluffy. 3rd layer: Mix 2 small pkgs. instant pistachio pudding with 2-2/3 cup milk. 4th layer: Spread remainder of 8 ounces of Cool Whip over layers. Steve Schermmerhorn, son of the Paul Schermmerhorns, Leesburg, will come home this weekend from Great Lakes, Ill., where he has completed boot training. His leave is for two weeks.

Rev. and Mrs. A.E. Habgood, Warsaw, will drive to Bloomington, Ill., Friday to bring their son Bob home from Illinois Wesleyan College for Christmas vacation. He is a freshman.

N. Bruce Howe and his daughter, Miss Kathryn, accompanied the former’s son, Rowan, to Manchester College Sunday afternoon after he had visited over the weekend at his home in Winona Lake.

“The Quiet Evening at Home Club” met Sunday evening at the home of Charles Butler, North Buffalo Street. Refreshments were served by Miss Charlotte Marie and Don Butler.
